Digital mammography has
become the gold standard in breast imaging. It is faster and has a higher cancer detection rate. It allows quick review of the images by the
radiologist and rapid determination regarding additional images or
studies needed.

Let's be Clear: It's time for Digital Mammography at KBRH!
A new digital mammography system at KBRH would be such a win for women.
First, digital image resolution is improved and images can be manipulated on the computer screen. This gives the radiologists more information with which to work and facilitates a more accurate diagnosis.
Second, when a second opinion is required, the images can be sent electronically and instantly. Specialists’ opinions are now only a click away.
Third, women are exposed to slightly less radiation.
Fourth, when further exploration is needed, the gold standard of care really comes into play with stereotactic capability. If women require further diagnostic testing to determine if a lesion is benign or malignant, the stereotactic biopsy occurs right in the mammography room, not the operating room. The instrument used is a needle. This means no general anesthetic, no stitches, less scarring, easier recovery, and faster results.
Digital mammography with stereotactic biopsy allows patients, who are at risk of a breast cancer diagnosis, to undergo further diagnostic testing using a minimally invasive procedure. This is a gold, bright gold, standard of care for women.
