KBRH Health Foundation Executive and Board of Directors 2021-2022
Brokerage Ownership and then as CEO of Kootenay Insurance Services Ltd. in Trail, BC. As CEO he led the expansion of the organization from 4 to 8 office locations throughout British Columbia. He earned a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation, which is the insurance industry’s most distinguished credential. He is also an avid member and twice President of the Rotary Club of Rossland, BC.
John values family and the community and is driven to help others by enhancing his surroundings. In his words: “I leave things better than how I found it.”
Growing up with parents in the medical field nurtured his understanding of the importance of good medical services and equipment required to serve its community. This directly inspired John’s volunteer efforts in support of the Foundation.
He enjoys an active lifestyle with his wife of 40 years, Susan and together they spend time with their two children and their families. He also enjoys skiing, mountain biking, hockey, hiking and camping with family and friends.
her own Leadership Development consultancy. Her accomplishments include her accreditation to the level of Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coach Federation. Prior to running her own business, Lindy held a variety of regional and head office positions at the TD Bank, including Branch Management and specialized HR roles. Lindy was also a Certified Financial Planner while at the Bank. Lindy values connection and contribution through her support of individuals and the community as a whole. Lindy has been volunteering since the age of 14 and is cognizant of the impact brought about by volunteerism, including healthcare. She recognizes KBRH as one of the most important facilities in the area and the significant role the Foundation plays in contributing to the advancement of healthcare for the community. As a competitive triathlete, she finished the Ironman distance twice, competed at the World Championships on two occasions and used to be an avid horse rider and show jumping competitor.
Manager of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue (KBRFR). The accomplishment he is most proud of as RFC, includes the consistent provision of high-quality professional standard fire and rescue protection for the citizens of his community. He was also proud to lead the successful fundraising campaign for the KBRFR Fire Rescue boat.
Terry understands the importance of strong community healthcare and the service it delivers. He values community service and is dedicated to the greater good of his community. This inspires him to serve as a volunteer to the Foundation and in doing so he continues to give back to the community that supported him throughout his career. Together with his wife of 39 years, they enjoy spending time with their sons and grandsons. He also enjoys running, skiing, hunting and camping.
Nurse Practitioners of BC. Being a healthcare leader, she collaborates with other nurses, physicians and clinicians to ensure excellent patient care throughout BC.
Kim is committed to helping others and making a difference in the community. She is inspired by the community’s generosity and motivated by the Foundation’s work to enhance healthcare for staff, patients, families, and other caregivers. For this reason she dedicates her time as a KBRH Health Foundation volunteer. When she is not working or volunteering, she enjoys spending time traveling with her husband, Tony.
His accomplishments include being a fellow of the International College of Dentists, receiving a distinguished service award from the BC Dental Association and his election to the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international honor dental organization. Bernie believes that one should always give their best and treat others the way you wish to be treated. He is an optimist and trusts that a new day will bring new experiences and hopes to be lived. Bernie and his wife Lilly volunteer to give back and contribute to the community. He supports the Foundation which in turn supports the regional hospital to recruit qualified and capable specialists with the most up to date equipment available. This in turn benefits the community.
Bernie enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also loves volunteering, golfing, pottery, gardening, cooking, golfing and visiting family and friends.

His enthusiastic nature encouraged him to register as an international student and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Anglo-American University, Prague in the Czech Republic. Since then he achieved multiple certificates, some with distinction, from various entities to keep abreast of the latest developments in his environment.

Paul is enthusiastic about finding ways to give back, and making a sustainable impact on the Kootenay Boundary region. Leading by example, he understands the importance of volunteer work and volunteers at multiple organizations. He is dedicated and committed towards building the community and for this reason volunteers his time at the KBRH Health Foundation.
When he doesn’t work or volunteer, he enjoys spending time with his husband, Josh and daughter and is an avid traveler.

One of his biggest accomplishments, was his 2.5 years spent as a table negotiator for Forest Licensees, while the core land use plan was drawn up for South Eastern BC. Chris values nature and family and understands the importance of regional healthcare. He is inspired by the work the Foundation does through the enhancement of facilities through new equipment purchases. This state of the art equipment, in turn attracts healthcare professionals to the region, to the benefit of the community. For this reason, he dedicates his time as volunteer for the KBRH Health Foundation.
Chris spends most of his free time with his wife and 5 adult children and also enjoys walking his dogs in the outback. When time permits, he participates in curling.

Before joining KBRH’s Administration, Ruth spent over 15 years leading a highly specialized clinical genetic service in Calgary, Alberta Ruth was also the Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee at the Alberta Children’s Hospital for several years. It is through her volunteerism and professional career that she has learned to abide by the principles of respect, integrity, autonomy and trust. These values continue to inform her daily work and personal life.
What keeps Ruth dedicated to working and volunteering in healthcare is the privilege to support individuals and their families with compassion. Ruth believes that the KBRH Health Foundation enables the hospital to excel by providing the necessary equipment to ensure patient care. The Foundation also maintains a close relationship with the community that allows us to grow our regional healthcare for all.Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Ruth worked and raised a family of two beautiful daughters. She recently moved to Trail to explore rural health and community living. The Kootenays are her outdoor play park and her favorite toys are bikes, kayaks, and skis. She also loves a good swim and her graphite pencil and paper.

Brad is part of a large family, who have used hospital services multiple times, and remains thankful for the wonderful facility and healthcare services that KBRH offers to the Kootenay Boundary region. Brad appreciates the community’s generosity and is committed to giving back. For this reason, he volunteers his time at the KBRH Health Foundation.
He spends most of his free time with his wife and 4 children and also enjoys playing golf and watching football and all hockey, including the Trail Smoke Eaters, of which he has been a season ticket holder for multiple seasons.

Barry is proud his role in project implementation for the Enterprise Resource Planning system at Selkirk.Barry values relationships and making a difference in even the smallest way to people’s lives. This belief has driven him in his career and volunteer experiences. Now a volunteer with the KBRH Health Foundation, Barry looks forward to contributing and expanding his skill set on the Board, and building relationships with community members.Outside of work, Barry is a father and husband that loves to spend with family and explore new experiences and places.
Columbia Prosecution Service – Crown Counsel for the last 3.5 years. Her accomplishments include her dedication in keeping our community safe through her commitment as a successful prosecutor. Her values are embedded in continuous improvement, and she strives to achieve this in everyday life.Rebecca has witnessed the community benefits gained through the efforts of volunteers, including those of her family members. She understands the importance of volunteerism and its impact on society. For this reason she is committed to the Foundation and its work towards the betterment of regional healthcare.During her free time, she enjoys spending time in her house and garden which she shares with her husband and teenage children. They enjoy traveling, exploring recreational opportunities, hiking and skiing.

In 1982, Debbie received her Chartered Accountant (CA, now CPA) designation and brings that knowledge to the Foundation Board. Along with her professional skills, Debbie‘s volunteerism is guided by her values of honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. Born and raised in Trail, Debbie was motivated to give back to her community out of an appreciation for the excellent care and services that our regional hospital provides. Debbie enjoys skiing, hiking, yoga, pilates, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Melissa strives to promote overall well-being and equitable health to everyone that she works with and cares for. Melissa has joined the KBRH Health Foundation Board as she feels her values align with the goals and purpose of the Foundation. She hopes that her volunteerism will provide another opportunity to promote quality health care for our region and the people who live here.
Melissa likes to stay as busy outside of the office as she does at work. She loves being with family, friends, and enjoying the outdoors. Melissa has recently returned to the Kootenays and is happy to be back to this region with all it has to offer.
